Check Color Contrast

This color contrast checker measures text against a background using WCAG relative luminance. Passing two colors does not mean an entire website is accessible.

    What Is a HEX Color?

A six-digit HEX code names an sRGB color as three channels: red, green, and blue, each from 00 to FF. #23395B is a dark blue used in the initial worktable.

Practical use: copy HEX into CSS color or background. HEX codes explained.

    RGB vs HSL

RGB stores light per channel. HSL stores hue, saturation, and lightness, which is how this generator walks the wheel without treating every channel independently.

Practical use: keep hue, change lightness to build a monochromatic ramp. Open the generator.

    Complementary Colors

Complements sit opposite on the hue circle, near 180 degrees. They can feel sharp if both are strong.

Practical use: one as field, one as accent. Scheme types.

    Analogous Colors

Neighbors on the wheel, often within a few dozen degrees. They tend to sit together with less friction.

Practical use: backgrounds and related UI chrome. Color relationship diagram.

    Triadic Colors

Three families near 120-degree spacing. Useful when you need more than one accent, if saturation stays moderate.

Practical use: one dominant, two supporting notes. Start with one color.

    Color Contrast Basics

Contrast ratio compares relative luminance of two sRGB colors. AA normal text needs 4.5:1; large text 3:1. AAA is stricter.

Practical use: test type against fills in the contrast laboratory. Contrast guide.
